  • What size of helmet do I need?
Watch our helpful video below to measure yourself for a helmet! Measure your noggin! To do wrap a flexible tape measure around the largest portion of your head—about 1 in. above your eyebrows. Or, wrap a string or ribbon around your head, then measure the length of string with a straight-edge ruler or yardstick. Look for a helmet size that matches your measurement. Our friends at Bicycle Safety Helemt Institute (Helmets.org) also recommend the following suggestions of helmet fit. Proper helmet fit and its lifespan - It is important to wear a bicycle helmet correctly. Not too loose or sitting too far back on your head. A helmet that is worn incorrectly may actually increase your chance of injury while riding a bicycle. - Use this easy 2V1 rule as a technique when putting on your helmet before you hit the road: With your helmet sitting level on your head you should have no more than "2" fingers between your eyebrows and the bottom of the helmet - The side straps should form a "V" shape just below your ears - Adjust the chin strap so only "1" finger fits between your chin and the strap. - A certified helmet will last three to five years, depending on use. But, if your helmet has been in a crash, or damaged, you need to replace it with a new one. If you are still unsure you can find more resources and information on what helmet is right for you; https://helmets.org/videoweb.htm Our specific sizing can be found on each protect or on the tab "What brand/type/style of helmets do you use".
  • How often should I replace my helmet?
The quick and easy answer is that a bike helmet does not have an expiration date, but should be replaced every 5 years according to the Snell Memorial Foundation. They are a group that have been testing and setting safety standards for all types of protective gear. There are other factors to concider besides age and Helmets.org recommends the following: - Did you crash it? Replace immediately. - Did you drop it hard enough to crack the foam? Replace. - Is it from the 1970's? Replace. - Is the outside just foam or cloth instead of plastic? Replace. - Does it lack a CPSC, ASTM or Snell sticker inside? Replace. - Can you not adjust it to fit correctly? Replace!! - But you should know that the foam in an uncrashed helmet performs well for many years.
